As the trustee and asset manager of the national rail system, the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) is entrusted with ensuring that rail assets are managed in a planned, systematic and sustainable manner. This includes asset registration, scheduled maintenance, performance evaluation and monitoring, as well as lifecycle planning to safeguard efficiency, safety and long-term functionality.
RAC oversees a wide range of technical assets, including rolling stock, signalling and communication systems, track engineering infrastructure and ICT systems. These include critical components such as the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system and Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), all of which are essential to ensuring smooth rail operations and operational readiness to meet future demands.
To drive continuous improvement and innovation, RAC undertakes strategic initiatives through Requests for Proposal (RFPs), enabling the Corporation to secure the most competitive and forward-looking solutions from industry players. Key initiatives include the Rolling Stock Strategy (RSS), the revitalisation of inactive train sets, and the development of cargo terminal hubs.
RAC is also mandated to support and monitor the implementation of government rail projects and serves as the implementing agency for selected development projects under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP11). In this capacity, RAC is responsible for planning, coordinating and monitoring project delivery to ensure effective execution, compliance with government policies and optimal cost control.
Through these responsibilities, RAC reinforces the sustainability of the national rail system while contributing to broader economic growth and infrastructure resilience.
